In other news, Erin is now independently mobile. She will now army crawl with a great deal of protest. It's not pretty, but it gets her across a room. She has also continued to babble quiet a bit over the past few days. She's not talking all the time, but something definitely clicked this week. I'm back to work tomorrow to finish up 2 more weeks of adolescent medicine and then Erin and I are heading out to Portland again. We're hoping for better weather than we had for our last trip. I'm also starting to dread the plane ride. Any ideas how to keep a 10 month old happy on a plane for several hours?

Acts of generosity
I'm sure that we all dream of raising children who are kind, considerate and generous. Erin, however, seems to have taken generosity a bit far. I had trouble getting her to eat any of her finger food yesterday for breakfast because she fed all of it to Duncan. Lucky dog.

It seems like you could keep her happy by providing her finger-food and a pup to feed.
I was going to leave a one word answer to that question: Benadryl.
But just in case you object to drugging your child . . .
if you are flying on a plane with phones in the back of the seat in front of you (that would be also if you're stuck in the middle seat), she can entertain herself the whole time with the phone.
If not, which seems more likely, pack her favorite board books plus maybe one new one. When she gets bored of those, pull out the in-flight magazine or buy a magazine to bring. Flip through the pages and look for all the kids or dogs or cars or whatever.
Also good for on a plane at that age are a variety of snacks and a small car or wheeled toy that she and you can run all over the seat-back tray, your face, her face, and the arm of the person sitting next to you. If she likes the game of pulling off a hat the minute you put it on, bring one for that. On the same principle, try bringing sturdy headphones and an ipod so that she can either listen to songs she likes or put the headphones on and take them off. A small mirror is another good toy for trips, and of course, you can play endless games of peek-a-boo. Using a blanket, you can hide a toy and let her find it. Over and over and over again. Oh, what fun you'll have!
